Jon F. Ferguson, Maintenance Supervisor, was born in Albany NY and graduated from Bethlehem Central High school class of ’58. He worked in a gas station for a year before enlisting in the Air Force. The opportunity came up for cadet training to be a fighter pilot. Jon placed fourth and they only had room for three. He thought that he would be an auto mechanic but they ran all of their tests and said ‘uncle needs you in electronics’. Jon spent his entire career in the strategic air command on long range bombers. After the first three years he cross-trained into computers. Everyone else at that time headed for Southeast Asia, Jon was sent to Alaska for three years. When his tour finished an opportunity came to join a friend in a startup company. Systomation Inc made test equipment and Laser drilling machines for large industry. Everything went great until the company ran into an economic slow down in the mid ‘70s. This is the only time in Jon's life that he spent time out of work. Big house, three kids, two cars, two horses, and no job. Thank God for good credit. A friend at St. George’s Episcopal Church knew a neighbor that needed to fill an Instrument Technician position at General Electric, Knolls Atomic Power in West Milton NY. After the security clearance process Jon started on a new career. He spent 25 years at KAPL in many areas of testing and design. Jon divorced in 1983 and spent many years alone. He remarried in September 2000 to his soul mate, Diane McGuire, who also worked for KAPL. When Jon retired in 2002, they moved to Cape Cod. His family includes 4 girls and 1 boy, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren who enjoy visiting Cape Cod often.
